Ph.D. in Management Studies

Aditya Institute of Management Studies and Research (AIMSR) is a recognized Ph.D. Centre of University of Mumbai. Students interested in pursuing Ph.D. in management studies can register for this programme.

Duration: Duration of the Ph.D., Degree shall be a minimum duration of three years and a maximum of six years from the date of admission including course work.

Eligibility Criteria

Subject to the conditions stipulated in UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Awards of M.Phil /Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2016, the following persons are eligible to seek admission to the Ph.D. programme:

  • Candidates for admission to the Ph. D. Programme shall have a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale(or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
  • Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. Course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and successfully completing the M.Phil. Degree shall be eligible to proceed to do research work leading to the Ph. D. Degree in the same Institution in an integrated programme. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
  • Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme.

NOTE : – Admission will be based on the following VCD guidelines: Exam./Thesis/Univ./VCD/947 of 2018 which are uploaded on the University website.

Procedure for Admission

  • The admission shall be based on the criteria notified by the Institution, keeping in view the guidelines/norms in this regard issued by the University as per the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Awards of M.Phil/Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2016 and other statutory bodies concerned, and taking into account the reservation policy of the Central/State Government from time to time.
  • The candidates should fulfil the following:

    (a) Cleared Ph.D. Entrance Test in Management (PET) conducted by University of Mumbai.

    OR

    (b) Cleared UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE/teacher fellowship holder of apex bodies CSIR/UGC/ICAR/ICMR/DBT only.
    OR

    (c) Passed M.Phil. Programme.

     

  • An interview/viva-voce to be conducted when the candidates are required to discuss their research interest/area through a presentation before a duly constituted Research Committee.
  • The interview shall consider aspects such as whether:
    • The candidate possesses the competence for the proposed research.
    • The research work can be suitably undertaken at the Institution/College.
    • The proposed area of research can contribute to new/additional knowledge.
  • Interested candidate should fill up admission form with current detail and should submit the same with required documents to the admin office before the prescribed date.
  • The interviews will be conducted of eligible students after scrutiny of applications. The interview schedule will be displayed on notice board as well as communicated to the candidates on e-mail.
  • The list of the qualified candidates after interview will be displayed on the notice board and also communicated to the qualified candidates.
  • The admission will be confirmed after payment of prescribed fees.

Required documents:

  • Mark Sheets (all semesters) and Convocation Certificate of Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree.
  • Certificate issued by Thesis Section of University of Mumbai regarding clearance of PET. Or Relevant Certificates relating to eligibility for admission in PhD Degree.
  • NOC from the employer in prescribed form if candidate is working.
  • Proof of residential address.
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Character Certificate from Principal of earlier college or employer.
  • Migration Certificate, if applicable
  • Caste Certificate in the case of SC/STOBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently Abled and other categories, if applicable

Research Proposal:

  • The candidate after completion of the admission process, should submit the outline of his/her research proposal in consultation with his/her Research Guide with the prescribed fees to the thesis section of University of Mumbai through the Institute (Research Center) as per the guideline of University of Mumbai from time to time.
  • After receiving approval from the Research Recognition Committee (RRC) of University of Mumbai, the candidate should submit his/her application for P.G. Registration for Ph.D. Programme to the Thesis section of the University of Mumbai through the Institute (Research Center) not later than 20 days from the date of approval.  

Course Work:

Every Candidate must undergo the course work prescribed by the Board of Studies of Faculty in Management as per clause no. 13 of UGC regulation 2009, published in the Gazette of India, 11 July 2009(ASADHA 20, 1931).

The Duration of the course work will be for a minimum period of one semester i.e. Six months.

The Course work will be treated as pre-Ph.D. preparation.

The Candidates who have successfully completed the M. Phil. programme of University of Mumbai or of any other UGC recognized Universities as per the UGC guidelines from time to time will be exempted from the course work.
